Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo, easy dinner recipe with fettuccine, chicken, and alfredo sauce made all in a pressure cooker and ready in minutes. A family-friendly meal that is easy enough for a busy weeknight.
If you have an Instant Pot (or pressure cooker) you’re going to want to try this easy Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo pasta dish. No pre-cooking needed for this one. Just dump, stir, and cook! Doesn’t get easier than that!
I realize not everyone has an Instant Pot but don’t worry I have plenty of other alfredo recipes like this Chicken Bacon Alfredo you may like instead.
I have to say, I was kind of surprised how well this Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo turned out. I contemplated about cooking the pasta and/or chicken first but thought I’d take my chances and try just throwing everything in the Instant Pot, pressure cook, and see what happened.
So glad I did! It was way more simple and tasty than I would have ever expected.
I’m assuming most people know what an Instant Pot is by now, but just in case…
What is an Instant Pot
If you haven’t heard of these yet, you may be living under a rock. Kidding, but not really. haha! They’ve been so popular!
I have this Instant Pot and have to say I’m really loving it! Although there are a lot of different options now.
Instant Pot’s are known for their easy pressure cooking abilities but they can also slow cook, cook rice, steam, sauté, etc. Different versions have different capabilities.
I mostly just use mine for pressure cooking (Instant Pot Pulled Pork and Instant Pot Pulled Chicken) and cooking rice, but definitely lots of possibilities.
Only 4 ingredients in this pasta dish. Although you can add some vegetables after. You can try adding them in while the pasta and chicken are cooking, but I didn’t try so I can’t say for sure how it will turn out.
You can also add some salt and pepper to the chicken or the Instant Pot if you’d like but between the Alfredo sauce and chicken broth, I felt it didn’t need it. Some dried Italian seasoning, basil, or oregano would also be great additions if you’d like.
I did use a jar sauce from the grocery store rather than Homemade Alfredo Sauce. You could probably use homemade, but I haven’t tried so not 100% positive how it would hold up in the pressure cooker.
Since every pot and ingredients can be slightly different, don’t worry if your pasta or chicken isn’t FULLY cooked when you first take the lid off. Just put the lid back on and let the ingredients sit in the hot liquid a little longer. It will finish cooking.
Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo Ingredients
- Alfredo sauce
- Chicken broth
- Fettuccine, broken in half
- Chicken, boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into small cubes
- Optional toppings: Parmesan cheese and/or fresh parsley
How to Make Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo
- Pour the Alfredo sauce and chicken broth into the bottom of your Instant Pot. Stir to combine.
- Add the broken fettuccine and chicken to the pot and stir to combine making sure both are well covered with liquid.
- Place top on Instant Pot and lock. Set on manual high pressure for 10 minutes.
- Once done, let sit for 10 minutes for natural release, then release rest of pressure. Check to make sure pasta and chicken are cooked through. If not cooked through, place lid back on and let sit in hot liquid an additional 5-10 minutes or until cooked through.

(Full printable recipe card is at bottom of post.)
Serving Suggestions
- Top the pasta before serving with a little fresh chopped parsley and/or freshly grated parmesan cheese.
- Serve right away while it’s still warm out of the Instant Pot.
- Serve with a salad and/or some fresh bread like these Homemade Dinner Rolls or even these super popular Garlic Cheddar Drop Biscuits.
- A side vegetable would also be great with this pasta such as steamed broccoli or even these Italian Green Beans.
Quick Tips for Best Results
- Be sure to cut your chicken into small pieces so it can cook through. You can try experimenting with full pieces and shredding after, but I haven’t tried that yet so I can’t say for sure how well that will work.
- Every pressure cooker can be a little different, so you may need to change the recipe a little for your specific one. Be sure to also stir all the ingredients well before you start cooking and make sure the pasta and chicken are not clumped together.
- Since results can vary quite a bit for a number of reasons, I would not suggest making this for the first time for a special dinner or when you’re having guests over. Make it once and change the cooking time or ingredients as needed for your personal taste.
- Don’t worry if your pasta is not fully cooked when you remove the lid of your Instant Pot or pressure cooker. Give everything a good stir, then put the top back on completely and let the pasta and chicken sit for a little while longer. The hot steam and liquid will continue to cook the food.
- After cooking, if the sauce is not as thick as you’d like it, you can whisk in a little cornstarch mixed with water.
Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo FAQ
How should I store this Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo?
It’s best served right away, but you can store leftovers covered in the fridge.
Can I freeze the Chicken Alfredo?
I would not suggest freezing the leftovers. Alfredo sauce doesn’t always freeze well.
How long will the Chicken Alfredo last?
Stored covered in the fridge, it should last at least a few days.
Substitutions?
You can experiment with different kinds of pasta and proteins but I can’t say for sure since I have only tried this version.
Can I use low-fat ingredients?
You could try a low-fat jarred Alfredo sauce but I can’t say for sure how well it will work.
What else can I add to this recipe?
You could add your favorite spices to the recipe such as dried Italian seasoning, oregano, or basil. You could also add a little salt and pepper if you’d like but the jarred Alfredo sauce and chicken broth are rather salty.
What should I serve this pasta with?
You can see above for more serving ideas, but I’d suggest a simple salad and green vegetable.
Didn’t turn out, what went wrong?
Hard to say for sure but every pressure cooker is a little different. Different brands of ingredients can also make a difference. If your pasta and/or chicken weren’t fully cooked, just put the lid back on, and let it sit another 5-10 minutes (do not turn pressure cooker on). The hot liquid should finish cooking the pasta and/or chicken.
Can I make this vegan, vegetarian, low carb, or gluten-free?
Vegan – You can try a vegan Alfredo sauce but I haven’t tried so not sure about results.
Vegetarian – Just omit the chicken.
Low-Carb – You can try a lower-carb pasta, but you may need to adjust the cooking time.
Gluten-Free – Again, you can try a gluten-free pasta, but you may need to adjust the cooking time.
