Grilled Chicken Alfredo, easy dinner recipe that is so much better than any Italian restaurant! Homemade Alfredo sauce with fettuccine and simple grilled chicken make this a quick and easy family-friendly meal.
If you’ve been to an Italian restaurant lately, you know how expensive a simple pasta dish can be. Why not make it at home, like this Grilled Chicken Alfredo? You won’t believe how quick it comes together and how few ingredients you need for this tasty pasta dish.
Honestly, if you’ve never made Homemade Alfredo Sauce, you’re in for a treat. So easy to make and really just a few ingredients. If Alfredo Sauce with Cream Cheese is more your style, that will certainly work too.
I get soooo many comments on my Alfredo Sauce recipe (email, Pinterest, etc.) from people saying they had NO idea how easy it was to make at home. People, it is so easy that once you make it, there is NO turning back.
Consider yourself warned… haha!
I used fettuccine pasta, but you can use your favorite pasta or whatever you have in your house.
The key to the Alfredo sauce is to use heavy cream (not skim milk or low-fat creams) and GOOD quality parmesan cheese (not the stuff in the green tube that we all have…).
Grilled Chicken Alfredo Ingredients
- Fettuccine pasta (or your favorite kind of pasta)
- Chicken, boneless skinless breasts
- Salt & Pepper
- Butter
- Garlic
- Heavy cream
- Parmesan cheese, freshly grated good quality
How to Make Grilled Chicken Alfredo
- MAKE PASTA. Bring a large pot of water to boil and cook pasta according to box directions for al dente. Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
- GRILL CHICKEN. Season both sides of chicken with a little salt and pepper. Cook chicken over medium-high heat on grill for about 3-5 minutes per side or until cooked through. Set aside.
- MAKE ALFREDO SAUCE. Place a large pot over medium heat. Melt butter, then stir in minced garlic cloves. Cook about 1 minute or until garlic is soft and fragrant, stirring constantly.
- Slowly add the heavy cream to the saucepan, whisk until cream comes to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer about 3-5 minutes or until it starts to thicken.
- COMBINE. Stir in Parmesan cheese until smooth and thick. Stir in drained cooked pasta. Place on serving plate. Thinly slice chicken and place on top.

Serving Suggestions
- I’d suggest topping the pasta and chicken with a little fresh chopped parsley and/or freshly grated parmesan cheese before serving.
- For best results, serve the pasta and chicken right away. Alfredo sauce generally tastes better right after it has been made rather than reheated.
- Serve this pasta dish with a salad and/or homemade bread like these delicious homemade Fluffy Buttermilk Chive Biscuits or this simple Beer Bread.
- A side vegetable would also be great such as steamed broccoli or even these Italian Green Beans or Roasted Brussels Sprouts.
Quick Tips for Best Results
- I’d suggest serving this pasta dish right away as I mentioned above. You can reheat leftovers, but they might not be as delicious as right after making.
- You can use your favorite kind of pasta if you’d like instead of the fettuccine, but make sure you adjust the pasta cooking time as needed.
- Let your chicken rest for a little while after removing from the grill and before slicing.
- If you like a lot of pasta and/or sauce, you might want to double either or both in the recipe. Some people may find the serving size a bit on the small side. Likewise, if you prefer A LOT of sauce, you may want to double the sauce recipe. Personal preference.
Grilled Chicken Alfredo FAQ
How should I store the Grilled Chicken Alfredo pasta?
It’s best served right away, but if you have leftovers, store covered in the refrigerator.
Can I freeze the Grilled Chicken Alfredo pasta?
I would not recommend freezing this pasta dish. The Alfredo sauce doesn’t generally freeze well.
How long will the pasta last?
Leftovers if covered well, will last at least a few days in the fridge.
Substitutions?
Instead of chicken, you could use your favorite protein/meat and vegetables.
Can I use low-fat ingredients?
I would not recommend using low-fat cream/milk or cheese in the Alfredo sauce. You can, but you may not be thrilled with the results.
What else can I add to this recipe?
You can add your favorite protein/meats (a little bacon on top would be great) or vegetables (asparagus, mushrooms, broccoli, etc.). You could also add your favorite spices or seasoning to the chicken before cooking or to the Alfredo sauce such as dried basil, oregano, or Italian seasoning.
What should I serve this pasta with?
See more serving suggestions above, but I would suggest serving this pasta and chicken with a simple salad and/or a green vegetable.
Didn’t turn out, what went wrong?
Generally, if you used low-fat dairy in the sauce, the results may not be great.
Can I make this vegan, vegetarian, low carb, or gluten-free?
Vegan – You can try vegan dairy and cheese in this dish, but results could vary quite a bit.
