I’m the first to admit, I’m not a “canner”, so I’ve become a bit obsessed with homemade overnight refrigerator pickles. These Ranch Refrigerator Pickles were a lot of fun with fresh summer cucumbers and Ranch seasoning. A great addition to my other pickle recipes including my super popular Spicy Pickles, Mexican Refrigerator Pickles, and the regular dill Overnight Homemade Pickles. These Refrigerator Sweet Pickles have also been popular!

These Ranch Pickles are for the most part fool-proof. Don’t worry if you’ve never made from scratch pickles before. They don’t take that long to prep and really are ready to eat the next day.

Traditional “canning” kind of freaks me out and is a whole long process, so I love how easy these refrigerator pickles are to make with simple ingredients. No fancy tools or ingredients needed.

These homemade pickles stay crunchy in your fridge for quite a long time. Keep a batch or two in the fridge to snack on. A big batch of Pickled Red Onions is also great to have on hand!

Ranch Refrigerator Pickles Ingredients

  • Fresh dill sprigs
  • Onion
  • Garlic cloves
  • Cucumbers (small thin cucumbers)
  • Water
  • White vinegar
  • Sugar
  • Ranch seasoning packet (or Homemade Ranch Seasoning)
  • Salt
  • Pepper

How to Make Ranch Flavored Refrigerator Dill Pickles

  1. Place dill, onion, and garlic in a large wide-mouth quart mason jar. Fill jar to top with cucumber slices.
  2. Meanwhile, place the water, vinegar, sugar, Ranch seasoning, salt, and pepper in small saucepan over high heat. Whisk until the mixture comes to a boil. Pour hot liquid over cucumbers. Cool slightly, then place top on jar and refrigerate overnight.

Uses for Ranch Pickles

  • Use on or in your favorite sandwiches, burgers (like these Pickle Chicken Burgers), or hot dogs.
  • Chop up and put in dips.
  • Place in a bowl and serve all by themselves as a snack or appetizer.
  • Use as a unique pizza topping.
  • Substitute them for any recipe that has dill pickles.

Quick Tips for Best Results

  • Use fresh ingredients including fresh dill, onion, and garlic for the best flavor.
  • Use a wide mouth quart mason jar if you can. I find them the easiest and best for refrigerator pickles.
  • Use small crunchy cucumbers that don’t have a lot of seeds for best results. I have found larger cucumbers don’t work as well and you may be disappointed with the results.
  • Make the recipe as-is the first time and if you like it, then you can experiment with adding or substituting ingredients such as spices and herbs.
  • Shake the jar every few hours or so if you can to make sure the ingredients are well distributed.

Ranch Pickles FAQ

How should I store these Ranck Pickles?
Store the pickles covered in the refrigerator.

How long do refrigerator pickles last?
Depending on the quality of your ingredients these refrigerator pickles could last a few weeks to a few months.

Can I use something other than cucumbers?
I haven’t tried it, but you could try other vegetables. Some vegetables may need to be blanched first, however.

Can I use dried dill?
I would highly recommend using fresh dill only in this recipe for best results.

What else can I add to this recipe?
You can add your favorite spices or herbs, although I suggest making the recipe as-is the first time then experimenting the second time.

Ranch Refrigerator Pickles

Ranch Refrigerator Pickles, easy homemade ranch-flavored dill pickles!
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Yield 3 cups
Author Lisa Huff

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh dill sprigs
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves chopped
  • 3 cups thinly sliced small cucumbers (about 5-6 small cucumbers)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 (1 ounce) packet Ranch seasoning (or Homemade Ranch Seasoning)
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Place dill, onion, and garlic in a large wide-mouth quart mason jar. Fill jar to top with cucumber slices.
  • Meanwhile, place the water, vinegar, sugar, Ranch seasoning, salt, and pepper in small saucepan over high heat. Whisk until the mixture comes to a boil. Pour hot liquid over cucumbers. Cool slightly, then place top on jar and refrigerate overnight.

Notes

SNAPPY TIPS: We had better luck with small, thin, firm cucumbers rather than larger ones with a lot of seeds. Make sure your cucumbers are completely covered with the liquid. Depending on your jar and size of cucumbers, the recipe may take a little more or less than 3 cups of cucumbers.
SNAPPY SUBSTITUTIONS: Instead of a large mason jar, you could use another large container although I would suggest not using plastic.

My family and I love this recipe! My only issue is that the ranch packet sinks to the bottom when I put it in the fridge. Is that normal? Does it have to boil longer?

Hi Stephanie! So happy to hear your family loves it! Some of the ranch packet may not dissolve which is ok. But some should dissolve. If you feel like not enough is dissolving, I would suggest boiling a little longer. And also, I would suggest shaking the bottle every now and then at least the first day to just redistribute the flavors a little. Hope that helps!

I don’t believe so, but I’m not a very experienced canner so not sure if they would be ok. They do however last quite a long time in the fridge.

I just tasted them they’re horrible. They don’t taste like ranch at all.

Can I add more cucumbers to the brine when the 1st batch is gone?

I haven’t tried but think you could reuse once although it may take the cucumbers a little longer to soak in the flavor.

I’m assuming you mean canned to be shelf-stable? I don’t believe they can be, but I’m not one for canning so can’t say for sure.

You can use whatever you have or like, although I would suggest white or yellow.

This is such a cool idea — I would never think to flavor the pickles with a packet of ranch, but it makes SO MUCH SENSE.
