The holidays are right around the corner and this homemade Poultry Seasoning would be the perfect spice rub for you Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey. It’s also great on a whole roasted chicken for a Sunday family dinner. So simple to make from scratch, you’ll want a jar of this seasoning mix in your cupboard.

This Poultry Seasoning mix is not only great on chicken and turkey, but it would also be delicious on pork and some fish/seafood. We love it on a roasted chicken for Sunday dinner. Pair the chicken or turkey with some roasted potatoes and vegetables, and these easy Garlic Cheddar Drop Biscuits and it’s the perfect comfort food dinner.

This from-scratch seasoning mix recipe makes about a 1/2 cup. It should fit in 4-ounce glass jars, mason jars, or other spice containers. Depending on your jar and how well you measured however, you may need to tap the jar lightly on your counter to remove some of the air and allow the rest of the seasoning mix to fit.

This spice mix (along with this DIY Burger Seasoning and Steak Seasoning, and also this homemade Seasoning Salt) also makes an easy gift idea for Christmas, birthdays, or even Mother’s Day or Father’s Day for the foodies in your life. You can also easily multiply this recipe into a larger batch to give as gifts and keep some for yourself.

Uses for Poultry Seasoning

  • Rub on chicken or turkey (like this easy Roasted Turkey) before roasting, grilling, or baking. Or sprinkle liberally on either.
  • Add to homemade chicken or turkey burger patties.
  • Rub on cuts of pork before cutting.
  • Sprinkle on to vegetables before roasting.

Quick Tips for Best Results

  • All spices and herbs should be dry, not fresh.
  • I like adding a little dried lemon peel to this seasoning mix but you could use your favorite dried citrus peel such as orange, or could also omit if it’s not your thing.
  • I like to use powdered or crushed rosemary in this mix. I find dried whole rosemary a little hard sometimes. Or you can also use a small spice grinder (or small food processor) to help combine the spices and to crush all the spices and herbs.
  • Store the spice mix in a closed container in a dark cool place away from heat and light.
