Steak Seasoning, a simple DIY spice blend that is great for beef and other dishes! Make your own homemade Steak Seasoning mix in minutes for yourself or use it as an easy gift idea for your friends and family.
Have the perfect DIY Steak Seasoning mix for you today! This recipe is quick and easy and great to have on hand to sprinkle on your steaks before grilling or cooking. Also, great on other dishes!
If you love going to your favorite steakhouse and ordering a big juicy steak, chances are the restaurant has their own steak seasoning mix. Well, now you can have your own to make good steaks in no time.
I love liberally sprinkling this seasoning on both sides of a steak then off to the grill! So good! And with a little homemade Boom Sauce (we dip just about everything in that…) on the side, delicious! Serve with a baked potato and simple salad with a vinaigrette or Homemade Ranch Dressing that is just like one you’d get at a steakhouse, and you have a full easy meal.
This from-scratch Steak Seasoning recipe makes about a 1/2 cup. It fits great in 4-ounce glass jars, mason jars, or other spice containers. Depending on your jar, you may need to tap the jar lightly on your counter for the spice mix to adjust and make enough room for the rest of the seasoning mix.
Place the spice mix in a cute jar and give out as a gift. It’s an easy gift idea for Christmas, birthdays, or also perfect for Father’s Day! Or make a big batch just for yourself.
What is Steak Seasoning
Like I mentioned above many popular steakhouse restaurants have their own spice blend to put on their steaks. They generally have a lot of salt, but also spices such as onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and herbs such as basil or oregano. The seasoning is liberally sprinkled on both sides of a steak and cooked or grilled.
So if you’re wondering what to season steak with, give this spice mix a try!
Most of these spices you probably already have in your cupboard so you could make this mix up in seconds!

Steak Seasoning Ingredients
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Smoked paprika
- Oregano (dried)
I like smoked paprika in this spice blend, but you could use sweet paprika if you prefer. Basil instead of oregano is also a great option.
A mushroom powder and/or smoke flavoring powder are also great additions but can be a little difficult to find at your local grocery store.
How to Make Steak Seasoning
- Mix all ingredients in small bowl until well combined.
- Place in small glass spice jar with lid. Store at room temperature.
So simple!
Uses for Steak Seasoning
- Sprinkle or rub liberally on both sides of your favorite steaks before grilling or cooking.
- Sprinkle on other cuts of meat such as ribs, pork, chicken, or even burgers.
- Add a dash to sandwiches or even on Philly cheesesteaks! (Or even a Philly Cheesesteak Burger, yum!)
Quick Tips for Best Results
- Use your personal preference for the paprika. I like smoked for this recipe, but you can use sweet.
- Be sure to mix the spices together well before storing. Optional, but you can use a small spice grinder (or small food processor) to help combine the spices and for a finer mix and to cut down the oregano.
- Store the spice mix in a closed container in a dark cool place away from heat and light.
Steak Seasoning FAQ

What else can I add to this recipe?
You could add a mushroom powder or smoke flavor powder. Or add your favorite spices or dried herbs!
Can I make this vegan/vegetarian/low carb/gluten-free?

Homemade seasonings are the best. First they are so much more cost effective. Second, you can make them just the way you like. More of one ingredient, less of another. Perfect food gift too.
