Grilled Chicken Wings, quick and easy chicken wings on the grill! Enjoy as-is or toss the wings in your favorite sauce. Perfect for parties or even a simple dinner.
You’re going to love the no deep frying mess with these Grilled Chicken Wings! These homemade wings are ready in less than 30 minutes and a great party appetizer or simple dinner. So tasty and delicious!
My whole family loves chicken wings! BUT I hate the breading and deep frying mess that goes along with them. Such a pain and not to mention not that healthy. So this grill version is a great healthier version.
Lucky for me, my family loves this grilled version just as much. I love that these grilled wings take less than 30 minutes. This recipe is more just to get you started and not so detailed. You can easily add your favorite seasonings, marinades, and spice rubs.
You can toss the wings with your favorite sauce like this Homemade Buffalo Sauce, Korean BBQ Sauce, or this Homemade Teriyaki Sauce. Or maybe you have your own favorite.
You can use any amount of chicken wings you’d like. Keep in mind there are usually 4-5 whole wings (or double that for wingettes and drumettes separated) per pound but that can vary depending on the size of the wings.
(Full printable recipe card is at bottom of post.)
Grilled Chicken Wings Ingredients
- Chicken wings – separate into wingettes and drumettes if needed. I like to buy them already prepped to save time.
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
How to Grill Chicken Wings
- Preheat grill to medium.
- Generously sprinkle salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder on both sides of wings.
- Grill chicken wings about 4-6 minutes per side or until cooked through and browned on both sides. Let wings rest a few minutes then toss in your favorite sauce or enjoy as-is.
Serving Suggestions
- Veggies like carrots and celery are always a great side for wings.
- Toss the wings with your favorite sauce or they’re great as-is.
- Serve with a tossed salad or coleslaw for a full meal.
- A pasta salad (like this Quick and Easy Pasta Salad or potato salad would also be a great side.
Quick Tips for Best Results
- I’d let the wings sit for a few minutes after pulling them off the grill to let the juices settle.
- Chicken wings can vary in size, so you may need to adjust the cooking time. Chicken should be cooked to 165 degrees F so you can also use a meat thermometer if you’d like.
- Closely watch the wings on your grill if you tend to get flare-ups. They’re so small they can dry out QUICK.
- Sprinkle the seasoning liberally all over the wings. You can use your favorite spices as well.
Grilled Chicken Wings FAQ
How should I store the chicken wings?
Store any leftover wings covered in the refrigerator.
Can I freeze the chicken wings?
You can freeze raw or cooked chicken wings. The longer cooked wings are in the freezer though, the taste may start to deteriorate and dry out.
How long will the chicken wings last?
The cooked wings should last at least a few days in the fridge, or longer in the freezer. They can be reheated in the microwave or oven but are best right off the grill.
Substitutions?
Use your favorite spice combinations. Could even use ranch seasoning or taco seasoning. Lemon pepper seasoning would be great or create your own rub.
Can I make this vegan/vegetarian/low carb/gluten-free?
Here are some suggestions, but I can’t guarantee results. Be sure as always to check particular brands and ingredients if you’re following a specific diet or have diet restrictions or allergies.
Vegan – Nope, can’t do it.
Vegetarian – Nope, can’t do it.
Low-Carb – It’s already low-carb, just use a low-carb sauce if you decide to use a sauce.
Gluten-Free – It’s already gluten-free but if using a sauce, just be sure to check the ingredients in that.
