As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not an expert on Indian food or cooking whatsoever. I just love experimenting with some of the spices and flavors. This is not really an authentic Indian recipe, but delicious nonetheless!

If you’re a little unsure about Indian food and flavors this is a great way to get started.

What is naan?

If you’ve never heard of naan, it’s an Indian flatbread (similar to pita bread without the pocket…). You can make a homemade naan, or most grocery stores have it nowadays. Of course, nothing beats homemade bread, but let’s be real, it’s not always possible.

How to Make Curry Lamb Naan Sandwich

  1. Place ground lamb in large skillet over medium high heat. Break up lamb, and cook about 5-10 minutes or until cooked through, stirring occasionally. Drain off excess fat, then stir in curry powder, salt, and pepper. Add more curry powder to taste if desired.
  2. Meanwhile, place naan on work surface. Top with red onion, lettuce, and raita.
  3. Spoon ground lamb on top of naan. Roll up as sandwich and wrap in parchment paper or aluminum foil to secure if desired. Serve immediately.

Quick Tips for Best Results

  • Use a fresh soft naan that can bend easily to form a sandwich.
  • Use a curry powder you like. Also, just add a little at a time to the ground lamb and taste to make sure it’s enough for your personal taste especially if you’re at all unsure about the curry powder you have.
  • Add all your favorite sandwich toppings in addition to those suggested for a great sandwich.
  • Make sure your lamb is cooked through AND drain off some of the excess fat. I like to keep just a little of the fat for flavor and so the meat doesn’t seem too dry.
  • Give the homemade raita a try. Only takes a few minutes to make and pairs great with these sandwiches!

Curry Lamb Naan Sandwich FAQ

Can I make these sandwiches ahead of time?
I suggest serving these sandwiches right away. However, you can prep everything including making the raita ahead of time, chop the veggies for the sandwich, and prepare the lamb. Heat up the lamb before assembling then serve.

What kind of curry powder should I use?
Curry powder can vary a lot. Use one you like and be sure to add just a little bit at a time to the lamb and give it a try. You can always add more. I used Penzey’s The Now Curry, but you can use others.

What should I do if I can’t find naan?
Although naan can be found at many grocery stores now, if you can’t find it, you can substitute pita bread.

Can I use something other than lamb?
Yes! You could use ground beef, chicken, pork, or even a vegetarian substitute.
