How to Make a Milkshake
The easiest way to make a milkshake is with a blender or milkshake maker. An inexpensive blender works just fine.
In my opinion, for how to make the best milkshake, I’d suggest not over blending all the ingredients. If you leave your blender on too long, I find the milkshakes can become really “runny” and not as thick as you may like.
To make this Cannoli Milkshake, all you need to do is put all your ingredients including the vanilla ice cream, ricotta cheese, milk, orange zest, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and chocolate shavings in the blender or milkshake maker and blend until just combined.
If you like your milkshakes really thick you may want to add less milk and/or use full-fat ingredients. You can use low-fat ingredients such as milk, ice cream, and ricotta cheese but your milkshake may not be as thick and flavorful. Personal choice though!
How to Make a Milkshake Without Ice Cream
If you have a dairy allergy, you can definitely use a vanilla ice cream substitute that you like such as an almond milk or coconut milk ice cream.
You could try using ice and a little yogurt, tofu, or banana for texture for more of a smoothie type drink, but I have not tried them with this particular recipe so can’t say how it will turn out. You may need to experiment a little.
Instead of milk, you could also use cream, half-and-half, or a dairy substitute such as almond or coconut milk.
Again, be careful to not over blend all your ingredients. Once you have your milkshake, pour into your favorite milkshake glasses. The recipe makes one really large or two small milkshakes. It would also be great as “shots”.
Top with your favorite toppings such as whipped cream, additional chocolate shavings, chopped pistachios, and/or Cannoli Chips or broken cannoli shells.
For a fun adult version of this milkshake, add a little of your favorite liqueur to the blender such as amaretto or nocello. Cake vodka would also be great! Yum!
