Go Blue-tini Cocktail, inspired by University of Michigan in drink form with a blue cocktail and maize “M”. Fun tailgate cocktail for fall football games!
Go Blue-tini cocktail recipe an easy drink inspired by University of Michigan Wolverines. Who is ready for some college football this weekend??? Thankfully, we have our power back after Hurricane Irene! To celebrate Michigan’s first game (Yep, I’m a Wolverine, sorry Buckeyes, Spartans, etc.) I thought I’d come up with a fun cocktail, Go Blue-tini. But don’t worry if you’re not a Michigan fan (yeah, I know there are about 2 of you out there who are not Michigan fans). I have a few suggestions to come up with a drink for your favorite college, professional, or any other team!
For my Go Blue-tini, I had a vision of making a “maize” M floating in a “blue” drink but wasn’t sure how I wanted to make a blue drink. The first thing that came to mind was using Curacao since it’s a blue liqueur. But I didn’t have any in the house and of course I got the inspiration to make these Go Blue-tinis on a Sunday and you can’t buy alcohol here on Sunday (soooo my luck!). But that’s ok, because I had a plan! JELL-O has all sorts of colors and flavors of gelatin including Berry Blue perfect for a Michigan drink.
Not a Michigan fan? I know it can’t be possible, but for the 2 of you who aren’t…JELL-O has lots of great colors to create drinks for any team colors. You can also combine colors to make the perfect shade or flavor. Think of team colors, mascot, cheers, etc. to come up with the perfect drink for your favorite team. I cut out some pineapple slices to form M’s but you could use other fruit, candy, etc. to cut out letters, mascots, or shapes. You can use toothpicks to keep it all together if you need to.
For my Michigan block “M” I sliced the pineapple vertically to form long slices.
With a sharp knife I cut out the block M’s. If your slices are thin enough they will probably float in your drink as mine did. However you can use toothpicks so that it rests on top of the glass, hang them over the side of the glass, or get creative! I cut the M’s out freehand but you can trace them or use a cookie cutter if you can find one the right size, right letter, and sharp enough.
To make the blue gelatin a little deeper shade and add a little flavor to the drink I used some POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice.
The M floated right on top! Go Blue!
Hope you like it!

First I need to say “GO BLUE!” and second that these are AWESOME! I am totally making these to take to a party this weekend. I live in Ohio and showed my buckeye friends this and they were so jealous. They did say they would drink it but I think it’s because they are lushes :)

Thanks Terri Lynn! Sorry to hear you’re living in Ohio. :) Although I do have a buckeye cheesecake recipe for my Ohio State friends. :)

These are Amazing! So creative! I am a HUGE Michigan fan and these are going to be perfect for football Saturdays, thanks for sharing.

You definitely deserve a “most creative” badge! Really cute idea.
I’m guessing the gelatin provides more than color and flavor (protein, viscosity). What if you use food coloring and leave out the gelatin? Will it still float your fruit?
:)

Thanks Carmen! You’re very sweet! You could probably use blue food coloring instead or even blue kool-aid or another blue liqueur. I just used what I had around. If you cut the pineapple thin enough I would think it would float. I didn’t refrigerate the drink so the jello really didn’t thicken and the drink wasn’t “thick” so I would think the pineapple would usually float. And if it doesn’t float, you could always stick it on the side of the glass or put toothpicks in it to set it on top of the glass.

You love your ‘tinis :) :) :) these are beautiful! Such a great idea, too! Will definitely be using these for football season!

Cute! Bet you could find a little block M cookie cutter to make things easier with the pineapple.

Thanks Alison! I had looked for a M cookie cutter but unfortunately many of them are too big or not the right “block” style. Still looking though! Cutting the pineapple with a knife wasn’t too bad although I guess it depends on what you’re trying to cut out of it. :)

How fun are these! I could so do this with red for the Badgers! Love it – Thanks!
snappygourmet says
Thanks Erin! You could definitely make these for the Badgers, although the Michigan ones of course will always look better. hee hee! :)

This is absolutely adorable! Would be even better if it were purple with a big “N” floating inside ;) Go Northwestern Wildcats!

I have an idea for Northwestern, so maybe later this season. :)

I am most definitely a Buckeye fan and this drinks offends me… not really but you and I cannot be friends on November 26th haha. But the floating M is cute.
snappygourmet says
LOL Sounds good Erin! We just won’t talk on Nov 26th! :) Many of my friends are Buckeyes and that’s our usual arrangement! LOL But don’t worry, I’m working on a Buckeye recipe (not a drink) for this fall. :)
