Sloppy Burger Grilled Cheese, a gourmet grilled cheese recipe with flavors of a burger, grilled cheese, and sloppy joe all in one!
Sloppy Burger Grilled Cheese recipe for National Grilled Cheese Month today! Yay! When I was asked to participate in Kitchen PLAY’s “30 Days of Grilled Cheese” event, sponsored by Land O’ Lakes Deli Cheese I knew I couldn’t say no. I can’t say no to grilled cheese!! Not to mention I’m a CHEESE fanatic!!! Like grilled cheese sandwiches? Each day in April, a blogger is posting their own grilled cheese recipe so check them all out. But first, check out my grilled cheese recipe! This Sloppy Burger Grilled Cheese recipe is when a grilled cheese sandwich, meets a burger, meets a sloppy joe. A little crazy perhaps, but definitely delicious!!!
We eat a lot of sandwiches (like these Mexican Sloppy Joes), and not to mention a lot of cheese!! A basic grilled cheese sandwich is heavenly to me but I couldn’t resist adding a burger and sloppy joe component to this grilled cheese recipe. Of course there are a lot of cheese options out there, but Land O’ Lakes Deli American Cheese is so smooth that it’s perfect for grilled cheese sandwiches, not to mention other sandwiches, burgers, and snacks!
Land O’ Lakes also has a deli Italian cheese blend with Asiago, Parmesan, Romano, and American. Can’t wait to give the Italian blend a try in these sandwiches!!! Also this month until May 1st, Land O’ Lakes will be donating $1 to Feeding America every time someone pins or repins a Land O’ Lakes recipe on Pinterest. How cool is that??!! $1 provides 8 meals to a family in need so definitely a worthwhile cause! I’ll be pinning!! For more grilled cheese and cheese recipes, visit Land O’ Lakes so you can help families in need too!
Is everyone hungry now???? To start this yummy grilled cheese sandwich, cook the ground beef and onion in a pan for a few minutes until cooked through. I just made enough for one sandwich but you can VERY easily multiple the ingredients to make enough sandwiches for your family or crowd!
Pick out your cheese! I chose American. Land O’ Lakes Deli American Cheese is sliced right at the deli at many retailers (primarily on the East Coast). I actually ate a few slices of cheese while I was making my sandwich!! Don’t worry, no one was looking.
The cheese is so smooth and great for melting! I had no idea Land O’ Lakes has been producing cheese for over 90 years and is a farmer-owned cooperative consisting of independent farms! Always good to know where your food is coming from.
Once you’ve picked out your cheese and have your cooked beef and onions, add the pickles, bacon, ketchup, mustard, and garlic. Now you’re ready to assemble your grilled cheese sandwich! You may want to add some pickles (I know that sounds crazy, but would be so good…) so check out this easy homemade pickles recipe.
To make grilled cheese sandwiches extra crispy I add both a little butter and mayonnaise to the outside of the bread. The mayonnaise may sound a bit crazy but it definitely makes the sandwich brown nicely and crispy! I was shocked how well it worked the first time I tried this trick but check out how crispy this sandwich looks…
I also like to cook my grilled cheese sandwiches in a preheated cast iron skillet. Cast iron works great for grilled sandwiches and helps keep the outside crispy.
Who’s ready to eat???? Hope you enjoy!
